Finding Balance and Purpose Beyond Work

When life gets busy, finding balance can feel impossible. For me, that balance comes from two places: the quiet rhythm of fly fishing and the meaningful work of volunteering with Beyond Type 1. Both pursuits give me perspective, keep me grounded, and remind me why growth isn’t just about professional success, it’s about making a difference where it matters most.

The Pursuits That Keep Me Grounded

I’ve always loved fly fishing. There’s nothing that gives me peace like the cork of a fly rod in my hand and water under my feet. I spend a lot of time in my own head, and fishing is one of the few things that quiets that inner voice. It’s my way to disconnect and recharge.

Outside of that, my family and I are deeply involved with Beyond Type 1, an organization focused on supporting people with Type 1 diabetes. Our daughter lives with this condition, so this cause is personal.

I’ve served as chair of the Calgary Walk committee, helping raise over $125K annually with more than 500 participants since I took on the role after COVID. In 2023, our committee was honored as Volunteers of the Year. My daughter also volunteers as a youth ambassador and even represented Beyond Type 1 in Ottawa to lobby for government support.

Our ultimate goal? A cure for Type 1 diabetes in her lifetime.

How These Passions Shape My Growth

Fly fishing gives me peace, even during the most stressful times of the year. A quick trip to the river helps me reset and return ready for the next challenge at work. Volunteering with Beyond Type 1 reinforces our family’s belief that privilege comes with responsibility.

Gallagher has supported this journey, even providing financial contributions to the organization. Knowing my company stands behind what matters to me motivates me to give my best every day.

What Drives Me Forward

Giving back has always been a core value for our family. Even when we were struggling as a young family, we knew others had far less. I believe individuals, not institutions, drive social change. Donating time and resources isn’t optional for us; it’s an obligation. Big changes happen when people consistently choose to do small things to improve others' lives. Working with Beyond Type 1 is how I turn that belief into action.
