A Team That Moves Forward as One: What Strata Taught Me

After spending around twenty years in the industry, mostly with firms in Birmingham, I thought I knew exactly what to expect from legal practice. But joining Strata showed me something different. Something better. Because here, in moments that matter, you matter.

Professionally, Strata is up there with all the firms I’ve worked in.

I’ve always taken pride in my professional standards, and Strata matches that level in every way. The expectations are clear, the quality of work is high, and clients genuinely sit at the centre of everything we do. But what surprised me was how the culture lifted some of the pressures I’d carried for years.

There are no individual chargeable hours targets. No personal billing goals to chase. Instead, we work towards shared team KPIs, which means we succeed together rather than in competition with one another.

After 15 years of constant billing and feeling stuck in my own “vortex”, it was refreshing to step into a place where collaboration actually means something.

A Team That Moves Forward as One

What struck me early on was the ethos here: everyone pulls in the same direction. People are genuinely friendly and open to helping each other.

It’s quite refreshing that the team moves forward as a whole.

And the flexibility is real. Strata understands that life doesn’t pause just because you’re in the middle of litigation. When I had a family emergency shortly after joining, the team stepped in without hesitation. That moment told me everything I needed to know about this organisation.

At Strata, your wellbeing isn’t an afterthought. You truly matter.

The Day to Day: Structured, Balanced, Predictable

Litigation will always be busy and complex, but our systems make the workload manageable. We work through a diary based case management system that allows us to organise our tasks clearly and shift things across the team when needed.

Most importantly, in more than four years here: We can do the allocated work within the allotted hours, and very rarely go over.

That work–life balance is, without doubt, the best I’ve had in my entire career.

What I’d Tell Any Solicitor Thinking of Joining Us

If you’re considering Strata, here’s my honest advice: If you want to grow in a place where you’re supported, not stretched, this is it.

You won’t find the traditional billing pressure that dominates so many firms. Instead, you’ll find a friendly atmosphere, supportive colleagues, opportunities to learn, and a genuine respect for your life outside the office. We even make time for socials, something that strengthens the bonds that make our teamwork seamless.

Because here, #YouMatterAtGB.

My Proudest Moment

One highlight that will always stay with me was being recognised as the Most Outstanding Handler of the Year, across all offices. The award reflected strong results and file management, but to me it meant more than that. It was proof of what a supportive environment can help you achieve. Yes, the award had my name on it, but it was a team win, through and through.

Strata has given me a workplace where professionalism and humanity sit side by side.

Where teamwork replaces competition.

Where flexibility is real.

Where you can do meaningful work and have a life.

And above all, where you matter.
