When you spend decades in one industry, you start to recognize the difference between a place where you work and a place where you belong. I’ve built my career in workers’ compensation, but it wasn’t until I joined Gallagher Bassett that I truly felt what it means to grow in an environment that values people as much as performance.

I came with experience, curiosity, and a desire to keep learning. What I found were opportunities, sometimes before I even realized I was ready for it.

A Career That Grew Alongside Opportunity

I’ve been in the workers’ compensation industry for about 25 years, and I joined Gallagher Bassett a little over six years ago as a Senior Resolution Manager. Like many people, I came in focused on doing my job well. But it didn’t take long to see that this was a place where growth was encouraged.

As I moved into leadership, I began to understand what leadership really meant here. Eventually, I was given the opportunity to build a training program from the ground up, which became one of the most meaningful chapters of my career.

I often describe it as teaching people “the wonderful world of claims and why we love it,” because that’s exactly what it felt like. We were bringing in people who were brand-new to the industry and giving them not just knowledge but also confidence and a future.

Why Mentorship Means Everything to Me

Leadership, to me, isn’t about titles; it’s about people. Some of the most rewarding moments in my day come from watching others grow. Whether someone is brand-new to claims or just to leadership, offering mentorship and guidance is incredibly fulfilling.

Gallagher Bassett trusts its leaders to lead. We’re given creative control to shape our teams, to build strong dynamics, and to create environments where people feel excited about the work they do. That trust makes all the difference.

And just as important as development is connection. Camaraderie is something you feel every day in how teams support one another."

We Invest in Our People

One thing I always tell people at the entry level is this: Gallagher Bassett truly invests in its people.

We’ve created programs for people who want to learn the industry and build a career, not just hold a role. That investment is intentional because longevity and retention don’t happen by accident; you have to invest in people to make them possible.

Whether you want to stay in claims long-term or explore other paths like training, operations, or project work, there’s room to grow. If you want it, the resources are here.

What’s Ahead for GB

Even after all these years in the industry, I’m excited about what’s ahead. Seeing the changes Gallagher Bassett has implemented, especially around technology and AI, has been energizing.

What matters most is that these changes are driven by the people doing the work. The organization asks, "What do you need? How do you need it?" And then builds systems that actually support that.

It’s making jobs easier, working more efficiently, and the future feels promising. We’re not stuck in the past; we’re building what comes next.

In moments that matter, you matter

The moment that solidified my belief in Gallagher Bassett was personal. I had family situations that made life difficult, and for the first time in my career, I didn’t feel afraid to speak up. When I shared what I was going through, leadership didn’t question my commitment or my performance. They simply said, "Don’t worry. We’ve got your back. What do you need?"

People I had never even worked with reached out. Support showed up without being asked. And suddenly, I realized I didn’t have to worry about my job while navigating life. That’s what “In moments that matter, you matter” truly looks like.

Gallagher Bassett is a place where careers can span decades, where growth is encouraged, and where people are supported as whole humans, not just employees.

So, when people ask me why I stay, or why they should consider joining, my answer is simple: what are you waiting for? Come join us at Gallagher Bassett.
