Hi there! I'm Melissa Cerny, and I'm thrilled to share the experiences and insights I've gained throughout my incredible journey with Gallagher.

My career in insurance began somewhat unexpectedly at the age of 25. It wasn’t a field I had initially considered, but my strengths in operations led me to a role as COO at a small, family-owned agency in Southern California. In 2012, we made the pivotal decision to join Gallagher and that’s when the real adventure began.

Starting with a close-knit team of about 40 colleagues, I quickly became involved in every facet of the business from sales and integration to team leadership and driving corporate initiatives. The journey has been fast-paced, full of growth, and rich with opportunity, and I’m excited to continue building on that momentum.

Evolving Roles and Endless Opportunities

In 2016, I was asked to step into the role of Branch President. While my title has remained the same, my job has evolved every single year since joining Gallagher. I've had the chance to learn how to do acquisitions, build a robust emerging producer team to drive organic growth, and develop an incredibly strong management team. One of the reasons I've stayed with the company for so long is that I've never been bored! Gallagher continues to present me with challenges and allows me to be creative and entrepreneurial in my approach to solving problems and innovating. It's a constant journey of advancement and discovery.

By fostering an environment of diversity, collaboration, and employee-centric values, we've created a branch that not only delivers exceptional results but also nurtures the growth and well-being of our team members.

Embracing Diversity and Collaboration

One of the things I absolutely love about our team, the Pacific Coast Branch, is how intentional we've been in creating diversity at every level. We've worked hard to foster an environment of collaboration where differences in gender, ethnicity, political perspective, socioeconomic background, upbringing, and countless other factors are celebrated. We encourage our team members to bring their whole selves to work. These differences make us stronger as a team. It takes an incredible amount of respect, curiosity, and understanding from colleagues, but it's non-negotiable for us.

The Future of the Insurance Industry

Looking ahead, I believe our industry is primed and ready for a major shift in the way we operate. Our buyer demographic is evolving; with an increasing number of young producers joining the workforce they are looking to work with people who mirror them, using big data to make informed decisions. This creates an incredible opportunity for our young producer's adept with data driven strategic thinking to consult with clients on sales. I'm excited to see what the next few years will hold!

At Gallagher, the culture is very entrepreneurial. While there are consistent themes that we try to embody as a company, each team is encouraged to establish a culture that best fits their needs. We prioritize putting our employees first. Our management team invests deeply in our people—because we believe that when we take great care of our team, they’ll take great care of our clients. It’s a simple, powerful philosophy that drives our culture and success.

As I reflect on my journey at Gallagher, I'm proud of the contributions I've made to the company's culture. By fostering an environment of diversity, collaboration, and employee-centric values, we've created a branch that not only delivers exceptional results but also nurtures the growth and well-being of our team members. It's an ongoing commitment that I'm passionate about and will continue to champion in my role as Branch President.

Because at Gallagher, we're shaping the future together.
