When I joined the business as part of the Strata Solicitors acquisition more than 12 years ago, I could never have predicted where my career would take me. I started in an administrative role and have since progressed to my current position as Claims Transformation Programme Manager. Looking back, what stands out most is the variety of opportunities I've been given and the support I've received along the way.

One of the things I value most about my time at Gallagher Bassett is that I've never been limited to a single career path. Throughout my journey, I've been encouraged to apply my transferable skills in new environments, take on different challenges and continue learning. As a result, I've developed professionally in ways I could never have anticipated and continue to learn something new every day.

Stepping Outside My Comfort Zone

In October 2025, I moved from a long-established claims background into the role of Supply Chain Manager for GB UK. This was a completely new area for me and pushed me outside of my comfort zone. Although I was entering an unfamiliar field, I was able to draw upon the transferable skills I had developed throughout my career, including relationship management, communication and problem solving.

Through this role, I gained experience in supplier management, commercial decision-making and working with a wide range of stakeholders across the business. I also developed my ability to adapt quickly to change and confidently take ownership of new challenges."

That experience reinforced something I've learned throughout my career: some of your greatest opportunities come when you're willing to embrace the unfamiliar.

The Power of Transferable Skills

The best career advice I have received at Gallagher Bassett was consistent encouragement from senior leaders to focus on my transferable skills and remain open to new opportunities. Throughout my career, I've been encouraged not to view progression as a traditional or linear path, but instead to recognise the value that existing skills and experience can bring to different roles and challenges.

When I moved into Supply Chain Management and later into Claims Transformation, I was stepping into areas that were completely new to me. However, having the confidence and support of senior leaders who believed in my potential helped me recognise that skills such as relationship management, communication, problem solving and stakeholder engagement are transferable across many disciplines.

That encouragement gave me the confidence to step outside of my comfort zone, embrace change and continue developing. It has taught me that career progression is not always about following a predefined path, but about being willing to learn, adapt and take opportunities when they arise.

A Place Where Your Contribution Matters

What makes me feel that I matter at Gallagher Bassett is knowing that my contributions are recognised and valued.

Throughout my time with the business, I've been fortunate to receive several promotions, which has given me confidence that my hard work, commitment and results are acknowledged.

I also feel valued because I am trusted to contribute my knowledge and experience in meaningful ways. Having spent many years working within claims, it is rewarding to see that expertise being utilised in my current role, where I am helping to implement a new claims system and drive positive change across the business.

I feel that my opinions are listened to and that I can make a genuine contribution to decisions and projects. Combined with the support of a collaborative team and a great manager, that creates an environment where you know your work makes a difference.

Leading Meaningful Change

More recently, my claims knowledge led to an opportunity to support the implementation of a new claims system across GB UK. What started as supporting a colleague evolved into leading the programme as Claims Transformation Programme Manager. This has enabled me to develop skills in project and programme management, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement and influencing senior leaders.

Being trusted to lead and contribute to transformational initiatives has been one of the proudest parts of my career. I'm excited by Gallagher Bassett's ongoing growth, innovation and commitment to delivering excellent outcomes for clients. As the business evolves, new challenges and opportunities arise, allowing us to continually improve how we work and enhance the service we provide.

For me, that's what makes Gallagher Bassett such an exciting place to build a career: the opportunity to keep learning, developing new skills and contributing to meaningful change while growing alongside the business.
