Finding Purpose Where It Matters

I never set out to build a career in workers’ compensation. In fact, like most people, it wasn’t something I even knew existed when I was starting out. But nearly three decades later, I still find the work meaningful and rewarding.

What keeps me here isn’t just the role itself, it’s the people, the purpose, and the opportunity to make a real difference during moments that matter.

A Career Built on Service and Meaning

Workers’ compensation is ultimately about people. Behind every claim is a person navigating uncertainty, stress, or recovery, and behind every client is a responsibility to show up with integrity and care.

Over the years I've learned how important it's to support both claimants and clients during difficult times. That understanding has shaped the way I approach my work and my leadership. Even now, after decades in the industry, I definitely feel fortunate to work in a role where I can make a difference every single day.

Very few people plan a career in claims. My advice to anyone starting out is simple but important:

1

Be patient. Open your heart and mind to infinite learning.”

There is so much opportunity in this field, opportunity to grow, to move up, and to do work that truly matters.

Growth, Innovation, and the Future

What excites me most about the future is how the organization continues to evolve. There’s a strong focus on innovation and efficiency, including using new tools such as AI, which has already been remarkable in enhancing how teams work and support clients.

There’s also a commitment to simplifying and strengthening the employee experience. The goal is to have one platform… which will be phenomenal and so much more efficient for our teams.

As a leader, I’m motivated by the continuing opportunity for growth, strengthening our teams, and high quality service. When people feel supported and believed in, they thrive and so does the organization.

Leading Through Trust, Loyalty, and Respect

Stepping into leadership only strengthened my sense of purpose. For me, leadership it’s about seeing people, understanding their potential, and helping them grow.

Sometimes, the most impactful leadership moments come from encouraging those who don’t always speak up. You'll have a quiet team member that doesn't necessarily raise their hand, so it's maybe assigning new different work or projects to help them prepare for their future.

At its core, leadership is about trust. Loyalty and respect are earned, and when those values are present, collaboration and confidence naturally follow.

In moments that matter, you matter

At Gallagher Bassett, we show up because people matter. And when you pour yourself into helping others, the reward comes back to you in ways that stay with you, professionally and personally.

It’s in human moments, when someone needs compassion, clarity, or reassurance, that our roles become more than tasks. They become purpose.
