The Power of Steady Growth: My 13-Year Journey at Gallagher
I'm thrilled to share my career journey at Gallagher, where I've spent the past 13 years growing and evolving in the insurance industry. My path has been shaped by continuous learning, strong relationships, and a genuine passion for helping clients navigate risk and protect what matters most to their businesses.
When I joined Gallagher, my focus was primarily on client service and account management. Those early years provided an invaluable foundation and gave me the opportunity to learn the industry, understand client needs, and develop strong technical expertise.
Over time, my role evolved into a Producer position, allowing me to work with organizations across a wide range of industries, build meaningful relationships with insurers and clients, and help businesses navigate increasingly complex risk and insurance challenges. Each stage of my career brought new opportunities to broaden my knowledge, gain experience, and take on new challenges
Today, as an AVP and Producer in Gallagher's Commercial Insurance practice, I work closely with mid-market and large organizations to develop insurance and risk management solutions that support their long-term goals. What I enjoy most is combining technical insurance expertise with relationship building to create meaningful value for clients. I focus on understanding each client's unique business, helping identify and manage risk, and advocating for the best possible outcomes.
Growing Through Experience, One Step at a Time
One of the biggest contributors to my growth has been my willingness to trust the process. I never felt the need to rush into the next role or responsibility. Instead, I focused on learning as much as I could at each stage of my career and building a strong foundation before taking on new challenges.
As my experience grew, so did the complexity of the clients and industries I supported. Every opportunity taught me something new, whether it was navigating complex coverage requirements, gaining a deeper understanding of different industries, or strengthening relationships with clients and carrier partners. Along the way, I also invested in my professional development by earning my Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) and Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designations. Gallagher's support of continuing education and professional development played an important role in that journey. Through educational assistance, training opportunities, the New Producer Development Program (NPDP), and access to a wide range of learning resources and industry insights, I've been able to continue developing my skills and stay current in an ever-evolving industry. These opportunities have strengthened my ability to provide thoughtful, strategic guidance to clients.
I was also fortunate to work alongside exceptional colleagues and mentors who generously shared their knowledge and experience. Their guidance helped me build both technical expertise and confidence, allowing me to take a more strategic approach when helping clients manage risk.”
Looking back, every step of my journey prepared me for the next. Each experience, challenge, and opportunity played an important role in shaping the professional I am today.
The Value of Relationships, Mentorship, and Teamwork
One of the biggest reasons I've continued to grow my career at Gallagher is the people. Throughout my journey, I've been surrounded by supportive colleagues, mentors, and teammates who encouraged me to take on new challenges, expand my knowledge, and invest in my professional growth.
There is a strong sense of camaraderie at Gallagher. We work hard, celebrate successes together, support one another through challenges, and encourage a healthy balance outside of work. That culture has made my career both rewarding and enjoyable.
I've had the opportunity to support many clients through important milestones and evolving business challenges. Those connections have made the work especially meaningful and continue to be one of the most rewarding aspects of my career. The support I received early in my career inspired me to do the same for others.
As I've gained experience, I've enjoyed paying that forward by supporting interns and newer team members as they begin their own careers. Whether it's answering questions, sharing perspectives, or simply being a resource when needed, I believe some of the most valuable learning comes from the people around us.”
Growth Through Collaboration and Trust
One of the biggest challenges I faced was managing an expanding workload while maintaining a high level of service for clients. Over time, I learned that success is rarely achieved alone. Some of the best outcomes come from collaborating with talented colleagues, drawing on different areas of expertise, and working together to solve complex challenges.
That lesson has shaped how I approach client relationships today. Clients want more than someone to place insurance. They want a trusted advisor who understands their business, helps identify risks, and supports informed decision-making.
Technical expertise remains critical, but strong communication skills and the ability to build trust are equally important. Combining those capabilities has allowed me to build lasting relationships and become a valuable partner to my clients as they navigate an increasingly complex business environment.
For anyone early in their career, my advice is to stay curious, continue learning, and invest in relationships. Ask questions, seek out mentors, embrace new opportunities, and be willing to step outside your comfort zone. Growth doesn't happen overnight, but every experience contributes to your development and prepares you for the opportunities ahead.
The Gallagher Way has always been about doing the right thing for clients, colleagues, and carrier partners while building long-term relationships based on trust, integrity, and respect. It means putting people first, asking the right questions, advocating for clients, and consistently delivering value through expertise and genuine care. That's what has guided my career over the past 13 years, and it's what continues to motivate me every day.
