If you had told me a few years ago that I’d begin my career at a company where leaders encouraged me to take bold steps, sometimes before I even felt ready, I’m not sure I would’ve believed you. Yet that’s exactly what I found here.

My journey with Gallagher Bassett has been shaped by unexpected opportunities, genuine connections, and a culture that feels more like a community than a corporation. This is my story.

The Moment I Was Encouraged to Step Up

One experience stands out clearly. Only three months into my role, while still in training, I was asked to speak at a major industry conference for young professionals. Public speaking was nowhere near my radar. I was still learning the basics.

But the request came from senior leadership, and it felt like one of those moments where the answer was simply “yes.”

I remember thinking, “Why me? Are they sure I’m the person they want representing us on such a big stage?” But I trusted their confidence in me, took a deep breath, and accepted.

I connected with the panel team, prepared carefully, and walked onto that stage feeling nervous but supported. And looking back now, I’m so grateful I didn’t shy away. I felt incredibly privileged to have the opportunity and I'm glad I followed through… because it allowed me to network myself more and helped me share who we are with people in the industry who had never heard of us.

That moment changed the trajectory of my early career. It was my first real leap, and GB encouraged me every step of the way.

The Moment I Realized GB Felt Like Home

I knew surprisingly early into my internship that I wanted to come back full-time. During the first two weeks, we were encouraged to meet with people from different areas of the company. I spoke with individuals from client services, sales, and legal, each with a unique career story.

What stood out was their passion.

People talked about their experiences with excitement, pride, and authenticity. Many shared that they had left and eventually returned, calling it a place that draws you back.

There’s this running joke: “All roads lead back to GB.” And honestly, I started to understand it.”

What struck me most was how their faces lit up when talking about the work they did and the impact it had. I had never seen that kind of consistent enthusiasm elsewhere. And today, that feeling still holds true.

Three Words That Describe Our Culture

Welcoming

After my internship, nearly a year passed before I returned full-time. But walking back into the office felt like only a few days had gone by. People recognized me, asked how I’d been, referenced things they’d seen me post, and made me feel like my return mattered. It was genuine, and it meant a lot.

Safe

Whether it’s a team call, a one-on-one, or a meeting with someone outside my immediate group, I’ve always felt safe and comfortable asking any question I had. Even when reaching out to people I had never met, the response was always open, warm, and helpful.

Inclusive

Internally and externally, GB puts effort into recognizing and uplifting different communities and cultures. Seeing those stories highlighted made me feel seen, valued, and reflected.

How GB Supports My Work-Life Balance

Family is everything to me. Living in Chicago means I have to fly home to see my loved ones, making holidays especially important.

One thing I truly appreciate is how GB approaches those times. Before major holidays, we often receive a message reminding us to log off early and prioritize time with family, without guilt or hesitation.

To me, it shows alignment of values. Family comes first, family over everything. And here, I see that practiced, not just said.

My journey at Gallagher Bassett has been shaped by moments of encouragement, support, and connection. What keeps me here is simple: the people, the culture, and the feeling that this is a place where I can grow.

This isn’t just a workplace; it’s a community I’m proud to be part of.
