  • Prepare pleadings, routine motions, notices, jury demands, routine discovery, and correspondence for attorney review and signature.

  • Assist attorney in responding to discovery propounded by opposing counsel; interviews clients telephonically and reduces responses to writing; reviews work with attorney and prepares responses in final form.

  • Obtains, reviews, and summarizes medical records at the direction of attorney and has them reviewed by experts as necessary; and arranges for medical examinations.

  • Communicate with claims personnel and management via email, telephone, and face to face contact.

  • Assists attorney is preparing documents and evidence for trial.

  • Manages and monitors the status of court filings and suits via mail, in-person, or e-filing.

  • Maintain attorney calendars by scheduling, rescheduling, confirming, and/or cancelling appointment within agreed upon parameters.

  • Additionally, may schedule other appointments, including but not limited to conferences, examinations under oath, and depositions.

  • Answers, screens, and logs voicemail messages and incoming/outgoing calls to company personnel, clients, claimants, opposing counsel and/or courts for the attorney.

  • Organize and maintain legal case files to include opening, closing and storage.  Process incoming mail for review by attorney and responsible for filing/indexing.


  • Completion of accredited paralegal program, preferred.

  • Must be able to navigate various court websites throughout the State of California.

  • Must be able to follow complex instructions, and have strong organization/priority setting skills, as well as multi-task.  

  • Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.  Must be able to type at least 50 wpm.

  • Must have sufficient experience with Abacus, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and overall computer usage.  Further, must have experience with Courtcall, e-filing in State Courts, and processing of incoming invoices from vendors.

  • Must also have sufficient experience with office equipment, including photocopier, phone system, computer network system.  

  • Position also requires a minimum of 4 years as a paralegal/legal secretary handling insurance defense matters.

  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.  For U.S. employment opportunities, Gallagher hires U.S. citizens, permanent residents, asylees, refugees, and temporary residents. Temporary residence does not include those with non-immigrant work authorization (F, J, H or L visas), such as students in practical training status. Exceptions to these requirements will be determined based on shortage of qualified candidates with a particular skill. Gallagher will require proof of work authorization
  • Must be willing to execute Gallagher's Employee Agreement or Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreement, which require, among other things, post-employment obligations relating to non-solicitation, confidentiality and non-disclosure
