Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Participates in the rate-making, reserving, and risk evaluation functions. 
  • Counsels management and advises on underwriting functions that require actuarial or mathematical techniques to determine appropriate courses of action. 
  • Assures preparation and interpretation of data in support of rate filings with various state insurance departments. 
  • Determines rates of mortality, sickness, retirement, etc. based on analysis of statistical data. 
  • Assists in design of insurance plans, calculation of premiums, determining cash reserves and premium rates necessary to ensure sufficient funds for benefits payment and profitability. 
  • Manages and conducts research projects and communicates findings to others under minimal supervision. 
  • Provides higher-level administrative/technical support to actuarial staff by preparing and analyzing statistical reports of data. 
  • May act as an actuarial liaison to other departments.
  • Mentor junior staff in a compassionate and constructive manner.
  • Responsible for a book of business and new sales.
  • Work with the mid and junior staff, following the processes that have been implemented throughout the last few years.
  • Support and collaborate on development issues around GBS Insider, Bend the Trend, vendor relationships, PBM, etc.
  • Identify branches and GBS producers where relationships are strong to develop and manage business.
  • Get involved in details of projects.

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree 
  • 3 or more years of related experience required. 


DESIRED: 

  • Membership in the Society of Actuaries (SOA) with a designation of Associate, Society of Actuaries (ASA), or higher
