Responsible for directing Gallagher Bassett’s strategic planning process, working in partnership with company executives and business leaders across the organization.  Goals of the strategic plan are to accomplish GB’s financial objectives, advance its social mission, and achieve and maintain long-term competitive advantage.  IN addition to directing the planning process, the SVP – Strategic Planning and a small team of professionals under his/her direction will be responsible for providing actionable market and competitive intelligence to inform the process, serving as a source of thought leadership and innovative ideas, and overseeing alignment of corporate resources with strategic plans.



  • Direct strategic planning process
  • Maintain up-to-date view of market conditions and competitive environment
  • Prepare and maintain company SWOT analysis
  • Facilitate offsites, meetings, and other events whose purpose is advancing and updating the company’s strategy
  • Identify high potential business opportunities
  • Develop and evaluate strategic proposals and alternatives for consideration
  • Guide decision-making process
  • Foster alignment of divisional, business unit, functional, and M&A strategies
  • Prepare strategic planning document for use by GB leadership together with a summary for presentation to the Arthur J. Gallagher Board of Directors
  • Facilitate development of dominant priorities (the company’s designation for major strategic initiatives) and their translation into action plans
  • Monitor and oversee linkage of budgets with strategy and action plans
  • Recruit and develop staff members of strategic planning team
  • Develop frameworks to guide key decisions
  • Execute on analysis projects commissioned by GB business units and staff functions, as time permits
  • Track and report on progress


  • Master’s degree in business administration (or roughly equivalent academic credentials)
  • 5+ years of experience with a tier-one management consulting firm to complement a similar or greater amount of experience in a corporate strategic planning role
  • Demonstrated ability to work across organizational boundaries with individuals at all levels in strategy development and implementation
  • Experience and comfort working with C-level executives
  • Knowledge of and hands-on exposure to the insurance industry
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A record of success influencing the thinking of demanding senior-level executives
  • Executive presence
  • Strong presentation creation and delivery skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to comprehend the consequences of various problem situations and develop creative and innovative new solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to manage teams of varying sizes in the execution of complex analysis and production of high quality deliverables

U.S. Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be willing to execute Gallagher's Employee Agreement or Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreement, which require, among other things, post-employment obligations relating to non-solicitation, confidentiality and non-disclosure
