Position Summary:

 

The IT Portfolio Manager partners with a variety of technical and functional partners within the business to define requirements for application development, develops required documentation and communicates status in order to ensure business requirements are met.

 

Serves as a liaison between IT and the business. The IT Portfolio Manager will work closely with sales staff, business clients, technical members, and project sponsors to ensure IT work requests are successfully developed and prioritized. Additionally, the IT Portfolio Manager will support requestors in clarifying and articulating their business needs and anticipated business benefits as part of the work request process. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Defines detailed requirements, analyzes business needs, and validates solutions with the client.
  • Performs feasibility analysis, scopes project, and recommends alternative solutions, project strategy and deliverable prioritization.
  • Serves as senior subject matter expert associated with content, processes, and procedures. Develops high level implementation plans.
  • Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and form of desired results.
  • Serves as a liaison between technical and functional stakeholders, and project management teams, to help keep initiatives moving forward smoothly and in accordance with project plans.
  • Participates in multiple key initiatives simultaneously.
  • Guides and advises less-experienced Business Analysts.
  • Monitors other Business Analysts in software development methods and processes, and recommends implementation of those methods.

Additional Considerations:

  • Serve as the liaison between business customers and IT.
  • Help business customers translate their business strategy objectives into functional IT delivery requests.
  • Ensure IT teams have a contextual understanding of the Business Operations included or involved in the initiative.
  • Document work request requirements, anticipated business benefits, and coordinate with technical contacts to size the work effort.
  • Work with business stakeholders to prioritize work requests.
  • Answer questions about requirements throughout development lifecycle.
  • Provide business stakeholders with regular updates on work requests in progress.
  • Evaluate the value introduced by IT projects delivered to our business stakeholders.
  • Some travel may be required.

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Engineering or related field.  
  • 5 years related experience required including project support.  
  • Understanding of budgeting and financial management processes.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office. 

Preferred:

  • Formal project management training or certification.  
  • Experience with Microsoft Visio and Project.
  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Business Administration, MIS or related field.
  • Able to quickly learn new business processes and understand the technology requirements needed to achieve forecasted business benefits.
  • Strategic thinking skills to participate in planning, design, and policy development related to data management.
  • Prior IT portfolio management experience.
  • Experience in business analysis or business strategic planning.
  • Prior claims management experience.
  • Certification of Competency in Business Analysis or Certified Business Analyst Professional.
  • Understanding of business process and data flows.
  • Advanced MS office productivity software skills: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Team Foundation Server, and SharePoint.

  • Strong organizational skill to track all activities, information, and artifacts related to an initiative and share this in an easy to use manner with stakeholders.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders to reach a conclusion or make decisions.
