We are looking for an experienced, Senior New Business Underwriter to join our team. The role focusses on underwriting and servicing existing accounts. You will use your sound knowledge and discernment to evaluate new business whilst also providing a solid contribution towards income, profit and EBITDAC targets for the business.

Your Role:

  • You will be required to develop a new business account, assist with rating and adjustment enquiries from your allocated client portfolio.  

  • Are you able to identify further opportunity to upsell/cross sell across our product range?  We’re looking for someone who has real commercial acumen and can maximise opportunities. 

  • Do you have a keen eye for detail?  You will check policy documentation prior to issue and ensure all information is relevant. 

  • Sign off referrals from Assistant Underwriters
  • Develop thorough understanding of  coverage provided by the Pen Inc. business

  • Operate within the confines of the agreed personal delegated underwriting authority

  • Utilise the company’s preferred insurance pool
  • Report complaints effectively in line with the companies complaints procedure

  • Assist other departmental staff with their allocated workload at the behest of the senior management team, particularly in times of staff absence

  • Offer mentorship and coaching to junior underwriters as and when required

  • Comply with underwriting authority and the AJG Professional Standards Manual in accordance with statutory requirements specifically in respect but not limited to data security and management of customer information 

 

Your knowledge, Experience and Skills:

 
  • Are you working towards or do you currently hold a CII/ Dip CII (Chartered Insurance Institute) qualification? Are you educated to A-Level standard or equivalent?

  • You will possess a good knowledge of general insurance and underlying legal principles and practices, especially London Market / Lloyd’s and Industry databases.

  • Understand the risk exposure and able to determine the acceptance criteria and risk classifications for risks in a range of complex or unfamiliar situations

  • Do you have a deep understanding of the methods of rating as applied to our products including the principal of claims triangulations?

  • Have experience of quoting and adjusting Commercial Combined business via the Acturis platform.

  • Can you effectively use systems technology required to transact business?

  • Knowledge and understanding of underwriting experience in servicing accounts, the use of technical knowledge to handle claim queries ensuring a connected service

  • Ability to extract and piece together required learning from a range of different opportunities and sources

  • Experience of planning, prioritising and identifying new business opportunities

  • Effective communication skills with colleagues during account cycles

  • Attention and accuracy to detail in data entry and presenting data

  • Takes accountability of managing risk and safe-guards own role remit

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with clients and colleagues, good level of numeracy and literacy coupled with excellent attention to detail

  • Analytical problem solving approach with initiative and a ‘can do’ attitude

  • An empathetic, self-motivated team player who takes ownership and accountability

  • Eligible to work in the UK
